Fiery Crash on Green Bay Road

9/22/22

A few days ago, Mount Pleasant Police officers responded to a call about a multi-car crash while a school bus was loading children. Although the school bus was not directly involved, it was responsible for the vehicles stopping at that moment.

The accident happened on the southbound side of Biscayne Avenue. Responding officers reported that a red 2014 Jeep Cherokee had been stopped by a school bus dropping off children. The operator pushed the gas pedal too hard, and the Jeep crashed into a grey 2008 Mercury Mariner. The Jeep was then pushed into a white 2011 BMW 535 sedan.

No Major Injuries Reported

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is currently investigating the accident.

Although no one was hurt in the accident, the Jeep caught on fire from the impact. The roadway was closed for approximately an hour to allow debris to be cleaned up. Members of the South Shore Fire Department extinguished the fire and assessed the injuries of those involved. The Racine County Highway Department also cleaned up the wreckage. One of the Jeep owner's mistakes was not calling a car accident lawyer to take care of their injury issues. If you ever get involved in a car accident, contact your car accident attorney.

The Importance of Being Vigilant While Driving on the Road

Driving is a huge responsibility. You are in charge of what happens in your vehicle, which can be stressful. However, being aware of your surroundings will help you stay safe on the road. Here are some tips for staying vigilant while driving on the road.

Avoid Drunk Driving

Driving while intoxicated is very dangerous and can lead to serious injury or death. When you're out partying with friends or family members, don't let your good time lead you to drive away drunk.

If someone else has had too much alcohol and wants to get behind the wheel of a car, do not let them! Instead, ensure they have a designated driver to get them home safely and legally. If you are going out for drinks with friends, make sure there is someone who can take care of getting everyone home before heading out yourself.

Watch Out For Other Vehicles

Drivers must be aware of the other vehicles around them and their actions. If you see a vehicle swerving or driving erratically, do not attempt to pass them, as this can cause an accident. Instead, call 911 or contact your local law enforcement agency so they can warn other drivers about the erratic driver in their area.

Keep Your Vehicle in Good Shape

Vehicles can break down anytime, and you should always be prepared for this. Have a spare tire, jack and wrench in your vehicle at all times so you can change a flat tire if needed. If your car needs repairs, make sure they are done by a professional mechanic who has experience with the type of vehicle you drive.

Don't Drive When You Are Tired

If you are tired, your reaction times will be slower and more mistakes will happen. You may also fall asleep at the wheel, which can be dangerous for everyone involved. If possible, avoid driving when overtired or if you have been awake for a long time before getting behind the wheel.

You should also pull over and rest if necessary instead of driving through it because this could lead to accidents later in your journey. If possible, have someone else drive who has had enough sleep or switch drivers with someone who has had an adequate amount of rest so that no one gets too fatigued during their trip.

Summing Things Up

The Mount Pleasant incident serves as a reminder of how important it is to be vigilant while driving on the road. Drivers should avoid drunk driving, be aware of other vehicles around them and keep their vehicles in good shape. If they feel tired, they should pull over and rest instead of continuing driving.
