Cockroach Labs, the NYC-based company behind CockroachDB, the leading cloud-native distributed SQL database, raised $160m in funding.

The round, which brings Cockroach Labs’ total funding to $355m at a valuation of $2 billion, was led by Altimeter Capital with participation from new investors Greenoaks and Lone Pine, and existing investors Benchmark, BOND, FirstMark, GV, Index Ventures, and Tiger Global.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations, business reach and develop the product.

CockroachDB provides organizations both large and small with a transactional database with a cloud-native, distributed SQL architecture, multi-cloud flexibility and data-locking for regulatory compliance.

It is used by enterprises in areas including communications, gaming and entertainment, e-commerce and financial services. The list includes Equifax, Bose, Comcast, among others.
