Maryland Council on Economic Education Hosts Annual Awards Luncheon

5/13/19

BGE CEO Calvin Butler featured as keynote speaker

Students from across Maryland will be honored at the Maryland Council on Economic Education’s (MCEE) Annual Awards Luncheon on May 15th at the SECU Arena at Towson University from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. MCEE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving economic and financial literacy across Maryland’s school systems.

Calvin Butler, Chief Executive Officer of Baltimore Gas and Electric, will be the keynote speaker and share with students, teachers, guests, VIPs, and MCEE supporters his career path and the importance of financial knowledge for lifelong success.

This celebration highlights and recognizes students who won the Stock Market Game™, Economic & Personal Finance Challenge, InvestWrite, and Economic & Personal Finance Concepts Poster Contest. Winners from across Maryland will be announced the day of the Luncheon.

MCEE hosts this annual luncheon to reward students who have taken charge of their financial futures. An intricate global economy coupled with the complexity of personal finance issues require students to understand economic and personal finance to make informed, rational decisions as consumers, workers, citizens, savers, investors and participants in the global economy.

BGE CEO Calvin Butler, MCEE Executive Director Mary Ann Hewitt, MCEE Board Chair Steve Arbaugh as well as student winners and teachers will be available for interviews.

“In addition to encouraging economic education, we place high value on rewarding and celebrating the success of Maryland’s students,” said Mary Ann Hewitt, MCEE executive director. “The Luncheon provides an opportunity for students to celebrate their hard work with their classmates, teachers, families, and friends.”
