Kirkland & Ellis Adds Julian Seiguer as a Partner

11/20/17

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Julian Seiguer has joined the Firm’s Houston office as a partner in the Capital Markets Practice Group.

“Julian has an excellent reputation for his capital markets work, particularly in the energy industry,” said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee. “His experience leading sophisticated corporate financing transactions and his knowledge of the market will add depth to our strong capital markets practice in Houston and globally.”

Mr. Seiguer concentrates his practice on complex equity and debt capital markets transactions representing both issuers and investment banks on initial public offerings, follow-on equity offerings, Rule 144A offerings and other corporate financing transactions. He has extensive experience advising private equity-backed companies in IPOs and high-yield debt offerings, particularly in the upstream, oil-field services and midstream sectors. He also represents private equity funds and their portfolio companies, along with other public and private companies, in mergers and acquisitions, dispositions and investments. Mr. Seiguer joins Kirkland from Vinson & Elkins, where he was a partner.

“Kirkland has rapidly established itself as one of the leading energy transaction platforms in Houston and I am incredibly excited to be joining such a dynamic and growing team. I hope to help lead the further expansion of the capital markets platform and capitalize on the tremendous resources and people Kirkland has already assembled in Houston,” Mr. Seiguer said.

“Julian’s experience on IPOs and high-yield offerings is particularly attractive to our clients, and we are thrilled to add him to our already deep bench here in Houston. The further growth of our capital markets team is important to our clients, and I look forward to watching Julian and Matt Pacey continue to expand the brand in that space,” said Andrew Calder, a partner in Kirkland’s Houston office and a member of the Firm’s Global Management Executive Committee.

Mr. Seiguer has a J.D, with honors, from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University. He is fluent in Spanish and German.

In September 2017, he was honored with a Texas Lawyer Professional Excellence Award in the “Rising Star” category. The publication noted: “Since Jan. 1, 2016 alone, he has represented either the issuer or the underwriter in more than 30 securities offerings with a transactional value in excess of $17.8 billion, including seven IPOs with a total transactional value in excess of $2.7 billion.”
