Philmont Guidance Center Joins Holy Redeemer Health System to Expand Behavioral Health Services

1/30/17

Holy Redeemer Health System announced a new partnership with Philmont Guidance Center, a leading behavioral health organization with offices in Huntingdon Valley, Doylestown and Flourtown. This partnership is in response to the increased demand for inpatient and community behavioral health services throughout the community.

Philmont Guidance Center’s owner and lead physician, Daniel G. Hartman, MD, will assume the role of Vice President and Medical Director of Community Behavioral Health for Holy Redeemer Health System. Dr. Hartman is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry, Child/Adolescent Psychiatry and has an extensive background in psychopharmacology and cognitive behavioral therapies. Under his new role, Hartman will now have clinical responsibility over the Holy Redeemer Counseling Center, which will continue to operate under that name.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work closely with the physicians in the Holy Redeemer network to increase community access to behavioral health services.  I am personally excited to have the opportunity to create specialized programs to help meet the emotional health needs of patients with complicated medical issues such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and fibromyalgia,” Hartman said.

Holy Redeemer Health System recently expanded its hospital inpatient Senior Behavioral Health Unit from 12 to 24 beds to meet the current and future demands for that service. With the addition of Philmont Guidance Center, Holy Redeemer can now broaden services for patients in need.

The partnership is an excellent opportunity for both entities to be key participants in the Integrative Wellness Alliance (IWA) population health strategy and expand services in the region. The IWA was formed in January 2014 by a visionary group of primary care physicians to provide high-quality, patient-centered healthcare with sustainable value.

“Our IWA physicians have requested additional behavioral health services for the care of their patients. Combining this behavioral health model with care coordination is the best way to serve the needs of our community,” said Susan Hurowitz, Vice President of Care Coordination and Transitions of Care.

In addition to supporting the needs of IWA physicians, coordinating behavioral health services within the new partnership will include embedding behavioral health in the primary care office.

“This affiliation strengthens our recognition of the need for better access to behavioral health in the Pennsylvania communities Holy Redeemer serves as well as our interest in integrating behavioral health in primary and women’s health models of care in the future,” said Michael Laign, President and CEO of Holy Redeemer Health System.
