Two Vibrant Low-rise Residential Buildings designed by Gene Kaufman Architect Will Open Next Month in East Harlem

8/16/16

This September, a pair of condominiums called The Style and designed by Gene Kaufman Architect will open in East Harlem at 51 East 131st Street and 48 East 132nd Street, between Park and Madison avenues. The project was developed by 1916 Partners LLC.

Resting on a single parcel of land, the structures surround a 1,900-square-foot courtyard with trees, benches and tables. The buildings will be open, light and airy, inside and out, with an elegant, minimalist and sleek street presence that features a rich interplay of vividly contrasting colors and textures.

The 8,300-square-foot 51 East 131st Street is six stories and has 12 units while the 13,000-square-foot 48 East 132nd Street is seven stories and 19 units. The units will include a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments.

In addition to a courtyard, the buildings share a fitness center, a recreation space, and indoor bike storage.

Said Gene Kaufman, Founder and Principal of Gene Kaufman Architect, “Our goal was to evoke Harlem’s rich cultural and architectural heritage while designing something that fit the neighborhood’s residential scale. We’ve accomplished that with this pair of buildings, which bring a jazz-inflected energy indicative of Harlem’s rich past and exciting present.”

The interiors are by Pitchon Design Group.
